For this paper, watch one of the major Hollywood movies (e.g., Indiana Jones, Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider, Stargate) with special attention to the way the main character portrays archaeologists. Is this a biased perspective? An accurate perceptive? Consider this in relation to what we learned in the class.

In writing this paper, please consider the following:

  • Describe the main character and his/her actions, both in doing archaeology and in the action of the story
  • Describe the stereotypical behaviors portrayed and whether they could actually be true given the character’s time and place
  • Describe the relationship of the character’s behavior regarding: their basic archaeological skills?; concern with preserving sites and cultural materials?; ethics?
  • Describe how the movie ties into what we learned in class.
