Please take the Implicit Association Test and reflect on your results. The test is on the web, located at www.understandingprejudice.org/iat (Links to an external site.). Take the race and gender/career IAT tests. You need not report your scores. In your paper, please answer these questions:
- Do you think that the tests measures unconscious bias with respect to race and gender? Please be specific in discussing aspects of the test that you think are or are not valid for measuring unconscious bias.
- Either way, do you think unconscious bias exists in society (regarding race and/or gender)? If not, why not; if you think it does, how might it show itself in the organizational context?
If you have questions about how the test works, go to
https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/background/faqs.html (Links to an external site.); it may be able to answer them.
Please note that research shows that the order in which the faces are presented to you does have an effect, but the effect is very small and usually does not have a significant effect on your results.
Also, please note that there are other tests in addition to the race and gender/career tests. If you wish to take one or more of these, go to this site: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/takeatest.html (Links to an external site.). You need not log in. Just enter as a guest.
Your paper should be one to two double spaced pages, using 1 inch margins and a normal sized font. To receive full credit, you need to make a reasonable case for your point of view and meet the page requirement. Submit in Canvas as a word doc.
