Eastern European countries, since the fall of Soviet Union and their liberation, have eagerly become part of the larger Europe. Most countries in Easter Europe have become part of the European Union, common market and currency (Euro), NATO, in addition to the European Parliament and Constitution. Although Russian’s political system is autocratic, inflicted with corruption (i.e., money) and cronyism, it is still “technically” a form of democracy (i.e., electoral process).

Considering the philosophical affinity between Russia and European ideals of reason, science, progress, and democracy, what could be the roots of fundamental political and ideological differences between the two “worlds”? Class, what are your thoughts on this question?
